CONFERENCE 2010 GOES OFF WITH A BANG TO RIVAL EYJAFJALLAJOKULL
In spite of the disruption caused by a certain Icelandic volcano, this year’s UKGCVA Conference, in partnership with Prepay Solutions, played host to a record number of delegates seeking to find out the latest innovations and developments in the multi-billion gift card and voucher industry. With a packed agenda, great networking opportunities and a series of informative and entertaining presentations, delegates were not disappointed.

Other presentations that were met with particular enthusiasm on the day included Tim Danaher’s overview of the UK retail market followed by Brendan Dorrian of Global Retail Network offering an international perspective on retail. John Sylvester of P&MM and the Institute of Sales Promotion’s discussion on B2B sales promotion and Matt Lanford of MasterCard’s talk on customer loyalty were also very well received.
Andrew Johnson, Director General of The UKGCVA, commented: “The day has been a huge success and I expect that delegates will have taken a lot of food for thought back to their organisations that will help to shape voucher and gift card strategies for the coming year. As ever, there is so much going on in this market at the moment, with the development of new technologies, introduction of new products and a diverse array of new opportunities – More than we could possibly hope to cover in a day! But the Conference does continue to provide an important forum to raise debate and discussion as well as inform organisations of all of the potential on offer in this lucrative market. A successful day and enjoyable occasion for all!”

Not to be discouraged by recent natural disasters, two of the international speakers, Cindy Mielke of JC Penney and Rebekka Rea of the Retail Gift Card Association USA, made their presentations via a video link from America while Remigiusz Montwill, a founding member of the Polish Gift Card & Voucher Association, decided to travel across Europe by car to enlighten delegates of the strong emerging market in Eastern Europe. Some delegates had also driven from as far afield as Budapest and Scandinavia in order to make it to this celebrated industry event.
